This unit provides an introduction to and an opportunity to explore a range of theoretical positions from which research within an Indigenous context may be posited. Students are asked to identify and explain different theoretical positions, and critique their application. They are required to choose position relevant to their proposed research and to apply it in a critical and analytical way to a topic which is related to, but not directly linked to their research proposal for Honours or other introductory research project. Students are expected to develop an understanding of the implications of the use of a particular theoretical lens in their research and critically appraise both the advantages and shortcomings of that application.
