BCC202 Communication, Technology and Culture

The aim of this unit is to acquire an appreciation of the dramatic changes in technology from broadcast to narrowcast and beyond. Its origin is technological, but its impact is also sociological and political due to our ever changing world.

Communicating in the internet age has challenges of its own. Not only is this way of communicating faster and more efficient, but it also impacts on the way we live, learn, socialise and view our culture. The impact of the internet, SMS, video link and camera phones, means that we still need to get our messages across to each other, but we also need to understand new technologies, conquer new challenges and incorporate these new ways of communicating into our everyday life.
