This applied research unit, repeated over two semesters, offers students the opportunity to conduct a research project and complete a 25,000-word dissertation on an aspect of emergency and disaster management. The research process will include developing a proposal; reviewing and critiquing relevant literature; attaining ethical approval as required; selecting an appropriate methodological approach to guide the investigation of the topic; collecting data; analysing and interpreting the findings; and recommending strategies for further professional development in emergency and disaster studies. Students are required to attend a 5-day intensive in their first enrolment to prepare for undertaking the dissertation.
