Building on students' subject knowledge gained through previous disciplinary studies, the unit will introduce the pedagogy and practice required to be an excellent teacher of technologies (emphasis on information technology) in the middle years (7-10) of schooling. Students will develop understanding of pedagogy and teaching practice in relation to the Australian Curriculum and/or relevant local curricula. Through a cross-curricular approach to teaching and learning, students will be provided with the opportunity to evaluate and apply diverse curriculum perspectives and pedagogical practices relative to their teaching contexts.
The unit will develop students' skills to think critically, creatively, and constructively through application to investigation, critique, evaluation, and design. With a focus on `design and technologies' (ACARA, 2013), students will be provided with the opportunity to apply their learning to the design of a technologies-based unit of work and related learning sequence. Strong links between technologies and the Australian Curriculum cross-curricular priorities will be established and implemented throughout the unit.
