In this postgraduate unit, pre-service teachers will develop the critical pedagogical content knowledge and skills to understand the complexities of mathematics teaching in senior secondary. Pre-service teachers will also develop their in-depth knowledge on contemporary Mathematics educational theories with the content and philosophy of the Australian Curriculum in Maths. Pre-service teachers will critically apply student-centred and inquiry-based approaches to Mathematics content and its learning. Pre-service teachers will establish their in-depth knowledge of achievement standards for senior secondary mathematics subjects through the design of contextually engaging learning sequences. They will also critically review the strategies to engage students in Mathematics classroom, including assessment and investigations, graphics calculators and use of technologies.
