The course will develop a deep and connected understanding of history and the capacity to investigate historical data, think critically, creatively and constructively as is required to become an excellent teacher of history in the primary years. The history unit is built around the structure and philosophy of the Australian Curriculum: History, which has two interrelated strands (Historical Knowledge and Understanding and Historical Skills). Student opportunity to think logically, critically and creatively will be enhanced through a focus on investigation and exploration of critical historic issues and diverse perspectives of similar events. The unit will encourage students to become active in their own learning as an entry point into a future pedagogy unit, which will focus on inquiry based learning as outlined by the Australian Curriculum in History.
