ENG481 Applied Heat and Mass Transfer

This unit deals with the analysis, design, implementation and evaluation of complex heat and mass transfer equipment and machinery. It explains in detail three modes of heat transfer - conduction, convection and radiation - as well it covers underlying principles of diffusion mass transfer and provides an overview of HVAC system design and integration. Main topics covered in this Unit are one and two dimensional steady state heat conduction; transient conduction; forced convective heat and mass transfer in external and internal flows; free convections; heat exchangers; radiation; building ventilation; cooling load calculation; design of natural ventilation system. The unit includes the critical evaluation of different design methods and integration of knowledge to practical applications.
