ENV508 Applied Geographical Information Systems

This unit is an introduction to the concepts and practice of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). It provides an overview of the applications of GIS in the applied sciences and related fields and includes practical training in the use of GIS software, which includes accessing ESRI resources.

GIS applications are an essential component of the tool kit needed to manage environmental, social, cultural, economic and other data, and at a range of scales. GIS is an integrating technology that is essential for multi-disciplinary studies and most employers of environmental scientists expect GIS skills.
