The main focus of this unit is on building of social capital and capacity in educational contexts through transformative or other contemporary leadership approaches. The unit introduces and develops knowledge and attitudes concerning the ways in which communities build capacity and demonstrate resiliency and sustainability. The educator's role in providing transformative leadership is considered in detail. Participants are encouraged to identify a particular community project on which they can work in conjunction with key stakeholders. The community may be a community of place or affiliation, which may embrace on-line learning communities.
