Natural disasters are increasing due to complex environmental and geopolitical conditions. Natural disasters may impact on the health of the population in complex ways. In this unit the student will learn about distinct types of natural disasters and their impact on the health of people.
The unit will explore the injury or illness patterns which result from specific types of emergencies and how that influences health preparedness and response. Finally, the principles of a coordinated health response including the role of emergency medical teams and other agencies will be examined.
