IAS363 Community Language Planning

Designed to engage students in the processes, practices and philosophies of formal Indigenous language planning, this unit covers different approaches to language policy and planning for endangered languages. Building upon important concepts embedded in language analysis and maintenance, students will critically analyse policies, planning models and case histories from Australian and international contexts. An evaluation of language maintenance, revitalisation and revival programs against the needs of Indigenous language communities will provide a valuable foundation for planning important language work.
