Language centres are at the hub of a complex work of consultation, negotiation and management related to language maintenance and revitalisation in an Indigenous community. This unit scopes out the broad parameters within which language centres exist and examines the diversity in function and extent to which centres and stakeholders are involved in processes to maintain and revitalize languages. Students are exposed to and examine the theoretical and practical knowledge to successfully navigate the process of language centre management and will acquire and devise strategies and skills for resourcing community language work in this context. Student will be expected to have completed units in relevant language maintenance and linguistics prior to enrolment in this unit so that knowledge gained can be applied in a management setting.
