This unit is a core unit of the Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op). This unit consists of a minimum of 12 weeks of part time (50% FTE) work placement in a field of work related to the areas studied. Work placement would normally be either in an office, on site, or in a workshop, under the supervision of a supervising engineer. Prior to commencing work placement the student must discuss the detail of the placement with the unit coordinator. The placement is supported by training sessions held at the start of the previous semester providing guidance for cover letters, CV's, work ethics and interview techniques. Attendance at these training sessions is highly recommended.
Relationship between IPM301 and IPM302
Students completing a work placement full time will need to enrol in IPM301 and IPM302 concurrently. Students doing a part time (50% FTE) work placement should enrol in only one unit.
For full time students, assessment items will count towards both units. In recognition that the assessment for students taking both units is worth double the credit points, the placement plan, draft report and final report are considerably longer. A full explanation of the assessment for students taking either one or two subjects can be found in the unit outline.
This unit is reliant on on-line materials. Students must have access to a reliable high-speed broadband connection and a scanner.
