LGA300 Linguistics for Indigenous Languages 3

In this unit students who have completed LGA100 and LGA200 will be able to develop advanced understanding of the grammatical structure of languages, with a focus on Indigenous Australian languages. With an emphasis on problem solving, practical analysis and description, students will learn how to analyse patterns at word level and sentence level, and how to formulate a set of rules which account for those patterns. In relation to Indigenous language documentation and revitalisation situations, the unit will provide students with insights into the importance of discovering how languages differ, and what languages have in common, in order to make valuable predictions to fill the gaps where previous documentation is lacking.
