LGA310 Working With Indigenous Language Recordings

In this practice-oriented advanced level unit, students will explore and critically analyse oral narrative, and identify its central place in Indigenous societies. Students will gain knowledge and skills in recording oral language, and will learn how to edit, transcribe and format their recordings and other language recordings in order to create language resources for a range of contemporary situations. Students will be required to consider complex ethical issues related to language documentation, including copyright, intellectual property rights and community ownership for Indigenous oral language material.
