This unit introduces students to law and prepares them to undertake further studies in law. The unit takes a historical and comparative approach to legal systems. Key elements of the Australian legal system, such as the doctrines of precedent and separation of powers, are studied in more detail. The law of statutory interpretation is presented in combination with legal problem solving skills. The unit also introduces students to jurisprudence and the notion of transnational law.
