MLS201 Haematology

This unit examines the morphology and function of cells from the blood, bone marrow and immune tissues, highlighting their role in haemostasis and immune response. Students will undertake a detailed study of normal and abnormal red and white cell morphology and platelet structure and function. They will be introduced to haematological diseases, developing an understanding of red cell diseases, white cell diseases and coagulation disorders. Practical activities will provide students with the skills to prepare and examine peripheral blood films for laboratory diagnosis, ensuring the safe handling of blood and knowledge of the decontamination procedures.
