This elective unit is designed for students interested in the specialty of mental health nursing by building on the subject NUR219 Mental Health Nursing to further develop the primary mental health care and recovery approach for people, their families and communities experiencing mental illness. Students will be provided learning opportunities that introduce them to the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed for: family and individual assessment; motivating mental health behaviour change; managing challenging behaviour; and therapeutic engagement.
