PSY140 Introduction to Psychology A

This unit is one of the two introductory units to psychology - the scientific study of mental processes and behaviour. Together these units introduce students to a wide variety of the psychological concepts and theories, and current research findings theories that are used to explain behaviour. This unit provides students with an understanding of:

  • History of psychology, major psychology sub-disciplines, and major theoretical perspectives in psychology
  • Research methods used by psychologists
  • Health, stress and coping
  • Learning and memory
  • Thought and language
  • Motivation and emotions
  • Personality and social cognition
  • Interpersonal processes
