This unit provides an introduction to the legal systems, human rights and legislation relevant to human service practice. The purpose of this unit is to introduce students to the legal contexts of human service practice and assist them in developing an awareness of the limits and opportunities in influencing legislation and utilising legislation for marginalised people. Students will develop confidence in utilising legislation in practice relating to a statutory setting as well as an understanding of international humanitarian law, human rights, and statutory child protection legislation as this impacts upon vulnerable populations including Aboriginal people.
