As of 2011 students will have the opportunity to complete an Honours stream in the Bachelor of Social Work which will count as their specialist electives.
Eligible students who have achieved a Grade Point Average of 5, (credit or higher) across all third year level units completed in year 3 will be eligible to complete the award with Honours. Students interested in the Honours stream must discuss this with the co-ordinator prior to enrolment.
The Honours stream is comprised of two units (HON445 and HON446) with students completing a research proposal and an ethics application in HON445. A GPA of 5 (credit or higher) must be achieved for HON445 to progress to HON446 where students will complete the data collection and analysis and write up the thesis. The thesis will be 10000 words in length.
Students failing to achieve a GPA 5 (credit or higher) in HON445 will not be able to continue the Honours option in HON446 and will complete the non-Honours option Specialist Elective 2.
Supervisors will be academic staff members within the Theme, who have a Masters or higher level of qualification. Full information regarding the selection process, supervisors and contact details is available on the Human Service Central LearnLine site.
