This unit delves into the multifaceted landscape of First Nations education within the broader context of educational theory, practice, and policy. Through studying this unit students will develop understandings of effective pedagogies for teaching First Nations learners and engage with the historical and contemporary policies, practices and programs that have shaped First Nations education in Australia. Students will cultivate the skills necessary to integrate First Nations perspectives into their teaching practice with authenticity and respect through engagement with First Nation knowledge systems, people, and pedagogies. Students will demonstrate their understanding of cultural responsiveness and the importance of effective partnerships between schools, families, and communities through engagement with unit tasks and assessments. This unit enables students to build their capacity and confidence in various contexts to teach First Nations learners and to work with First Nations people to teach First Nations content and perspectives.
