This unit builds on the knowledge, skills and proficiency achieved in previous Greek language units to an advanced level. Students will improve conversational and compositional skills based on a variety of contemporary themes in the context of Greek-Australian relations. Cultural studies will focus on a range of historical and contemporary themes including topics in music, poetry, culture, tradition and history of The Queen of Cities. This unit extends upon the two interconnected study themes covered in previous units: Greek language and culture. The three-hour language class per week will gradually improve conversational and compositional skills based on a variety of contemporary themes: history and the modern society and contemporary issues in the context of Greek-Australian relations. The one-hour culture lecture and discussion per week is based on a range of Greek cultural and historical issues e.g. Greek migration to Australia; Byzantine World; Asia Minor; Music and Poetry, Culture and Tradition, and The Queen of Cities.
