The course will develop a deep and connected understanding of geography and the capacity to investigate geographical data, think critically, creatively and constructively as is required to become an excellent teacher of geography in the primary years. The geography unit is built around the structure and philosophy of the Australian Curriculum: Geography, which has two interrelated strands (Geographical Knowledge and Understanding and Geographical Inquiry and Skills). Student opportunities to think logically, critically and creatively will be enhanced through a focus on investigation and exploration of critical contemporary issues. The unit will encourage students to become active in their own learning as an entry point into a future pedagogy unit, which will focus on inquiry based learning as outlined by the Australian Curriculum in Geography.
