PSY522 - Assessment and Diagnosis: Adults
In this unit students will gain specific knowledge of the history of adult psychopathology and examine issues associated with contemporary methods of classification and diagnosis. These competencies will provide a strong foundation for the safe and ethical delivery of evidence-based practice. By engaging in the critical examination of differential diagnosis, symptom overlap, and sociocultural concepts of psychopathology a broad biopsychosocial understanding of psychopathology is developed. Students will assess the presenting problems of adults to formulate hypotheses to inform psychological intervention. Students are provided with theoretically grounded knowledge and skill acquisition in the selection, administration, interpretation and reporting of standardised adult psychological assessment and testing. Students will build knowledge and skills specific to culturally responsive reflective practice approaches to psychological assessment and diagnosis.
