SWK104 - Professional Foundations of Social Work
This unit introduces students to the profession of social work and provides core knowledge and values required to practice social work in Australia. Students explore the purpose, function and role of social work within contemporary society with a focus on understanding human rights and social justice. Core social work theories, models and practice methods will be examined such as case management, counselling, group work, advocacy, community development and social activism. The impact of institutional racism and the role of social work towards First Nations Peoples in Australia will be critiqued. The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of Ethics will be examined in relation to principles of duty of care and dignity of risk and individual rights and social responsibility.
