TEP023 - Foundation Maths
The aim of this unit is to help students to develop mathematical skills and knowledge as a foundation for further studies. In this unit students will carry out arithmetic calculations and solve mathematical problems with integers, decimals, fractions, percentages and ratios. Students will work with measurements including calculating areas, volumes and rates and apply these skills to practical situations. In addition, students will solve algebraic equations, transpose and substitute into formulae and use algebraic skills to solve a range of problems. Data sets will be investigated and analysed and graphical representations of data sets will be interrogated. Throughout the unit, students will also learn problem solving strategies and have opportunities to apply these to real-life contexts. The range of learning experiences provided in this unit will enable students to develop their skills in interpreting and identifying key information in mathematical problems, selecting appropriate strategies to solve problems and in analysing and communicating solutions appropriately for the given context.
