This postgraduate unit develops effective teaching strategies for enhancing young children's mathematical development through play, inquiry and problem solving. Pre-service teachers will engage with current research, policy, practice and curricula on early years numeracy to monitor children's thinking and fostering their mathematical progress in inclusive ways. Pre-service teachers will reflect critically on their own experiences and perspectives to develop an awareness of how their beliefs about numeracy influence their interactions with children. Pre-service teachers will also develop pedagogical leadership roles to meet their professional development needs in mathematics teaching and learning.
