In this unit students will develop the knowledge and skills to understand the complexities of student learning in junior secondary maths teaching (years 7-10).
The unit combines contemporary Maths educational theory with the content and philosophy of the Australian Curriculum in Maths (ACARA, 2013) in the content areas of Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.
Students will demonstrate student-centred and inquiry-based approaches to maths learning through the design of contextually engaging g learning sequences, including risk assessment, experimental investigations, formative and summative assessment, and the use of ICT technologies to engage students in Maths classrooms. Lesson sequences will focus upon understanding, fluency, problem solving, and reasoning as fundamental Year 7-10 student proficiency strands.
