ECM261 Teaching the Curriculum: Junior Secondary Mathematics
In this unit, pre-service teachers develop the knowledge and skills to understand the complexities of student learning in junior secondary Maths teaching. The unit combines contemporary mathematics educational theory with the content and philosophy of the Australian Curriculum in Mathematics in the content areas of number and algebra; measurement and geometry; and statistics and probability. Pre-service teachers will use student-centred and inquiry-based approaches to mathematics learning in this unit. They will also design contextual learning sequences to engage secondary students in mathematics classrooms. The learning sequences can include mathematical writing, directed investigations, formative and summative assessment and use of technologies.
