ECM513 Teaching the Curriculum: Junior Secondary Visual Arts
This postgraduate unit is designed to develop pre-service teachers' theoretical and practical understandings of teaching Visual Arts in the junior secondary years (Years 7-10). It focuses on developing a comprehensive and critical understanding of their own and others' visual arts practice and the cultural and historical contexts within which such practices arise and are received. Pre-service teachers will develop, apply and critique specialist knowledge of: the visual arts as cultural education; Visual Arts Pedagogical Content Knowledge; teaching practices that enhance material, affective and cognitive engagement; effective management of Visual Arts learning environments; and planning, delivering and analysing Visual Arts teaching practices.
