ENG467 Design of Steel Structures

The unit provides an understanding of the methods and calculations involved in designing reinforced steel elements as per AS4100. It includes the design of steel beams and girders to AS4100; design of tension and compression members; the effects of local and lateral buckling; design of bolted and welded steel connections; effects of fire and corrosion on steel structures. The unit includes the critical evaluation of different design methods and integration of knowledge to practical applications.

Enrolment in ENG469 Structural Analysis is recommended in the same semester. Students unable to enrol in ENG467 and ENG469 concurrently should complete ENG469 before attempting ENG467 for best sequencing.

This unit is reliant on on-line materials including electronic submission of assessment items. Students must have access to a reliable high-speed broadband connection and a scanner.
