EST311 Teaching Aboriginal And/Or Torres Strait Islander Language in Schools
In this unit, pre-service teachers critically examine Australian, state or territory Indigenous language and culture curricula and pedagogies, and identify the implications for teaching Indigenous language to first and second language learners in schools. Pre-service teachers examine the inter-relationships between curriculum, pedagogy and context and apply this knowledge to plan for Indigenous language and culture learning. This unit is intended for pre-service teachers who either speak an Indigenous language and who wish to teach it; or for those who are interested in facilitating the teaching of Indigenous languages and culture in schools.Â
