IAS281 Music Making and Theory 3

This unit provides the structure for music students to further combine theory and practice. Higher level music theory skills will be developed including writing harmonic and melodic minor, blues, pentatonic and whole tone scale patterns, writing cadences and chords in 4 part vocal style. Other topics covered in the unit include compound intervals, tonalities of triads, melody and modulation, verse setting, longer harmony including sequences, suspensions and unessential notes.
Students will also develop instrumental competence, technical and interpretive skills, and confidence in performance focusing on the stylistic characteristics of repertoire as well as performance planning and practice. Students continue to extend and refine technical and interpretive skills to broaden their musical repertoire to an intermediate level.
