While politics, when successful, is the antithesis of war, revolution and terror, it is also the case that political order has always grown out of wars and/or revolution, and even terror. In this unit students will explore the role that wars, revolutions and terror have played in the major political currents of modern times. Those modern currents can broadly be classified as Liberal Democratic, Nationalist, Socialist or Communist, Anti-Colonialist, and Islamic Revivalist. Study of this unit will provide a deeper understanding of international relations and political ideas, as well provide an in depth and critical understanding of the world we live in and why peace is so hard to achieve.
