This unit will allow students to develop their understanding of pharmacological therapies relevant to providing care for childbearing women. This unit will provide students with the knowledge and skills to advocate and support women in making informed decisions about their use of pharmacotherapeutics. The unit will introduce students to a range of therapeutic approaches in midwifery, that includes pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions appropriate to pregnancy, birth and the puerperium as well as in complex situations; complementary therapies used in midwifery practice; and psychotherapy applied to perinatal mental health. There will be an emphasis on critical analysis of evidence as it relates to a range of therapeutic interventions.
