The aim of this unit is to extend the concepts developed in PHA211 and PHA302 in terms of specialised dosage forms, methods of administering drugs, extemporaneous dispensing and communicating with patients and other health professionals. The unit particularly covers specialised dosage forms and targeted drug delivery systems to overcome biopharmaceutical problems, transdermal delivery, pulmonary delivery, parenteral dosage forms and sterilisation, ophthalmic preparations, and administration devices for intravenous fluid administration and gastric feedings. The unit also involves stability of pharmaceutical products, in vitro-in vivo correlations and bioequivalence, formulating good quality pharmaceutical preparations, advanced dispensing, utilisation of drug information resources, patient counselling skills and effective communication with other health professionals.
