This unit provides detailed therapeutic principles to form a basis for developing clinical knowledge and skills in the delivery of pharmaceutical care. The course material is designed to develop an understanding of clinical pharmacology, disease states and the therapeutic principles in their management. Treatment strategies will also include non-drug and complementary treatments where appropriate. Topics include disease processes and therapeutic principles in the management of diseases in the following areas: gastrointestinal, hepatic, endocrine, neurological, psychological, skin and eye. Complex multiple disease states and their management will also be discussed, with special emphasis on the prevalence of these conditions in the indigenous and remote communities.
