PHI110 CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING

In this unit students will learn the basic skills of reasoning and argument. Topics covered include evaluating arguments, constructing arguments, reconstructing arguments, formalising arguments, heuristics, clarifying meaning and identifying fallacies and biases. Students at the end of the unit should be able to identify structures of arguments in order to decide if they are well or poorly constructed, and argue relevant matters logically. This unit develops writing and thinking skills that are applicable to all areas of academic study and which are relevant to working and everyday life. Careful application in this unit will deepen students' capacities to evaluate everyday practical scenarios and argumentation, as well as, helping them think outside the box.
