COMMON PLANTS OF AUSTRALIAS TOP END

The Top End environments range from rugged sandstone plateaux and escarpments to vast floodplains teeming with wildlife and an abundance of plants. Eucalypt-dominated woodlands are dispersed with creeks, rivers and monsoon forest pockets. Harsher coastal habitats are sometimes protected by fringing mangrove communities, others are flanked by pristine beaches lined with tangled vine thickets or tall coastal trees. Much of the Top End is largely intact, and the sheer size of the landscape ensures there are many places where few people visit and a bush and outback experience is still possible. The booklet is largely self explanatory, with the botanical terminology kept to a minimum and a focus placed on photographs to help identify the plants. The text covers key features to help with identification, including bark, leaves, flowers, fruit and the plant's growth form (shrub, tree or herb)
