SBI282 Clinical Microbiology 1
This unit will provide a theoretical and technical understanding of infectious bacteria with respect to aetiology, habitat, pathogenesis and laboratory diagnosis. Students will develop an understanding of antimicrobial therapy, microbial susceptibility and antimicrobial resistance. Students will complete activities to ensure safe handling, cultivation and isolation of pathogenic microorganisms, through molecular techniques, biochemical tests and selective and differential media. This unit has a practical focus with students performing authentic activities which will develop their practical skills to a level required in diagnostic microbiology.
