This unit is designed to complement and expand on Clinical Microbiology 1. Students will develop an understanding and appreciation for the medically important viral, fungal and parasitic infections of the human body. They will study the characteristics, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of viruses, fungi and parasites as well as additional infections involving vectors, animals and compromised hosts. Students will undertake practicals to develop techniques for the isolation and identification of viruses, fungi and parasites.
