This unit aims to equip undergraduate and graduate students with an understanding of, and essential skills in, counselling and individual intervention approaches for working with people experiencing alcohol and other drug problems.
The unit has been designed for students in the areas of psychology, social work, nursing, sociology, education, Indigenous and business studies. Studies in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) are multi-disciplinary, drawing on knowledge from psychology, nursing, social work, sociology, education, anthropology, criminology, economics, politics, business, Indigenous studies, law and popular culture. For this reason, this unit should be relevant to students undertaking courses in any of these or related areas, particularly those who envisage working in human service areas such as health, education, psychology, social work and human resources management.
