DEM300 - Community-Based Risk Management
This units examines the concepts of community participation, selfgovernance and community-based approaches to disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and resilience. Two key questions guide study in this unit. Firstly, how do local communities, including indigenous and marginalised communities, cope with multiple risks from natural hazards, human made hazards and climate change. Secondly, how can community participation and self-governance to disaster risk reduction and climate change be institutionalised in routine development sectors in ways that respect local knowledge authorities and governance structures.
