ECE101 - Human Development and Play Pedagogies
In this unit preservice teachers will learn a range of theories and evidence from several disciplines that contribute to a deep and critical understanding of human development, including concepts such as: novice to expert learners, novelty to mastery, cognitive processing, executive function, and de-bunking neuromyths. This will be applied in exploring the role of play in a child's learning, development, and wellbeing. Preservice teachers will learn a range of theories, evidence-based understandings, and approaches to play in diverse contexts. Preservice teachers will learn about the critical role of play-based learning in the development of self-regulation and the development of conceptual thinking. Preservice teachers will learn how to plan for play-based learning using intentional teaching that reflects contemporary understandings of child and teacher roles in play, learning and human development.
