ECM241 - Teaching the Curriculum: Junior Secondary Digital Technology

In this unit, pre-service teachers will build on subject knowledge gained through previous disciplinary studies, the unit will introduce the pedagogy and practice required to teach technologies (emphasis on digital technologies) in the junior secondary years of schooling. Pre-service teachers will develop understanding of pedagogy and teaching practice in relation to the Australian Curriculum and/or relevant local curricula. Topics include analysing problems and design, implementing and evaluating a range of digital solutions, such as database-driven websites and artificial intelligence engines and simulations. Through a cross-curricular approach to teaching and learning, students will be provided with the opportunity to evaluate and apply diverse curriculum perspectives and pedagogical practices relative to their teaching contexts. Pre-service teachers will develop skills to think critically and creatively through application to investigation, critique, evaluation and design.
