ECM281 Teaching the Curriculum: Junior Secondary English
This unit introduces concepts and pedagogies relevant to the teaching of English in junior secondary. A broad review of relevant English curriculum documents and research literature will promote discussion on place of English in education and establish a basis for closer examination of the three English curriculum strands of Language, Literature and Literacy. Lesson planning will focus on the design and sequencing of activities that demonstrate appropriate integration of learning outcomes from the three curriculum strands. Planning will also be evaluated in terms of assessment opportunities, the use of engaging, high quality texts and junior secondary students' learning needs.
