ELA302 Lote Pedagogy

This unit prepares pre-service teachers to teach Languages Other than English (LOTE) subjects in Years Foundation-6, and to engage constructively with the language teaching profession. Pre-service teachers will develop an understanding of relevant LOTE pedagogies and teaching practices in relation to mainstream school settings within the Australian context. The unit requires pre-service teachers to think creatively and interculturally in undertaking a range of professional activities including needs analysis, syllabus design, and evaluating learning materials and technologies. Pre-service teachers will have the opportunity to apply their learning through the development of a multi-themed learning sequence. The unit also enables pre-service teachers to build on their prior knowledge of teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL) in Primary settings.
