ELA529 - English Language and Literacy Assessment
This unit explores English language and literacy assessment as a sociocultural practice and investigates international, national, and school-based literacy assessment practices. Preservice teachers will develop the theoretical and pedagogical knowledge required to implement a range of teaching and assessment strategies. These activities include gathering evidence of student learning (data), and then interpreting this information to inform teaching practices that enhance English language and literacy learning experiences of students in primary school settings. Preservice teachers will gather quality evidence of student learning and demonstrate their ability to make consistent (reliable) and valid judgements of students stage of reading development. Preservice teachers will also demonstrate the in-depth knowledge and skills required to meet the wide range of English language and literacy learning needs of primary school students by differentiating teaching and assessment practices to meet the needs of linguistically diverse English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) learners.
