EMG504 - Leadership in Education

This unit draws from a range of philosophical and ideological perspectives to explore concepts such as leadership, specifically in the field of western education and particularly as applied within school organisational settings and the contextual variations that impact their effectiveness. Educational leadership is explored with consideration for the broader societal tensions within which the institution of education operates and is what is known about 'western' and non-western knowledge practices and how these shape understandings and practices, when applied to the field of education. The implications of these factors for how educational leaders work in the context of the day-to-day circumstances they face in organisations are explored for the purposes of building and sustaining high performance outcomes. Students in this unit work towards developing a statement of professional learning about leadership to inform their ongoing professional practice.
