This unit introduces the analysis of processes involved in manufacturing and chemical processing which provide comprehensive information vital for sustainability evaluation of the project and identification of health and environmental risks. The unit explores in detail the procedures for solving material and energy balances and the laws of thermodynamics as they apply to chemical engineering. This unit stresses the importance of process flow diagrams and students are given an opportunity to practise solving various problems using computer process simulation software.
This unit is reliant on on-line materials including electronic submission of assessment items. Students must have access to a reliable high-speed broadband connection and a scanner.
